Traveling afar with family in an RV, being able to rest on the vehicle at any time, and not having to worry about crowded dining and accommodation at scenic spots in the evening—this leisure style is getting closer to the public. Yesterday, reporters learned from the Municipal Quality Supervision Bureau that the country’s first RV tourism service standard, initiated in Shanghai, is expected to be released simultaneously in August this year in the three provinces and one municipality of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai, and Anhui.
The recently issued "National Leisure Outline" by the State Council explicitly proposes "supporting the construction of self-drive and RV campsites," showing industry players the vast market potential of RV tourism. However, RV tourism in Shanghai is still in a spontaneous state, with neither the RVs themselves nor related tourism route products, campsites, or supporting services forming standardized norms, which is not conducive to the healthy development of the industry.
Shanghai had completed the project initiation for some local RV tourism service standards as early as the end of 2011, but considering the characteristics of RV tourism, the relevant standards must go beyond Shanghai, gain recognition and adoption from surrounding provinces and cities, and be elevated to a regional alliance standard for the Yangtze River Delta to have practical significance. It is reported that the standard will stipulate for the first time the site selection, basic functions and service items, and parking space area for RV campsites, including requirements that campsites should be pre-equipped with interfaces for water supply, drainage, and power, and should have kitchen areas connected to dining facilities. It also specifically specifies that the minimum area for each RV campsite is 48 square meters.
Officials from the Municipal Tourism Bureau revealed that Shanghai had previously planned to build 14 RV campsites, but all were put on hold before the standards were introduced. The first batch of RV campsites, with clear standards in place, will be initially constructed in first-tier cities in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, and Shanghai, such as Shanghai, Hangzhou, Nanjing, and Hefei. Scenic spots such as Chongming, Sheshan International Tourism Resort, Chenshan Botanical Garden, and Dianshan Lake have also shown considerable interest in establishing RV campsites.
