The Chongming County Martyrs Memorial Hall is a classic red tourism destination, as well as a base for patriotic education and national defense education.

The Chongming County Martyrs Memorial Hall is located at the eastern end of Xinhé Town in central Chongming, on the south side of Tuánchéng Highway. It was first built in 1951 under the original name Martyrs Memorial Tower, and was renamed Chongming County Martyrs Memorial Hall in 1957.

The Chongming County Martyrs Memorial Hall covers an area of 14,520 square meters. In June 1988, it was approved by the Chongming County People’s Government as an “Advanced Unit in the Management of County-Level Key Memorial Buildings.” In September 1995, the memorial hall was named an “Advanced Unit in the Management of Martyrs Memorial Buildings” by the Ministry of Civil Affairs. In 1996, the “Chongming County Youth Education Base” and the “Chongming County National Defense Education Base” were successively established at the memorial hall. In 2002, it was awarded the honorary titles of “Chongming County Youth Protection Advanced Unit” and “Shanghai Garden Unit.”

The memorial hall’s archives preserve 427 files of martyrs who sacrificed their lives in various periods, 22 sets of martyrs’ relics, 301 photographs and images, as well as 50 volumes of documentary archives. The Revolutionary Historical Exhibition Room displays the names of 427 martyrs, 255 photographs, one oil painting and one traditional Chinese ink painting, 193 text panels, one bust sculpture, and two full-body sculptures.
