Qianwei Village in Chongming serves as a patriotic education base.

Qianwei Village in Chongming is located in the central-northern part of Chongming Island, north of Dongping National Forest Park. It currently has 3,671 acres of land and 284 resident farming households. The village has been designated as a national agricultural tourism demonstration site by the China National Tourism Administration.

The village covers an area of 2.5 square kilometers with a population of 753. It was established in 1969 through land reclamation from a tidal flat. After more than 30 years of hard work, it has transformed from a once desolate and quiet border village into an ecological community that boasts modern rural scenery, pastoral charm, harmony between humans and nature, and a relatively developed economy. In recent years, experts from both China and abroad have visited the village and spoken highly of its ecological projects. By the end of the 20th century, with approval from the municipal tourism authorities, Qianwei Ecological Village officially launched its agritainment leisure resort program. With the slogan “Eat farm food, stay in farmhouses, do farm work, and enjoy farm life,” it quickly became popular among urban tourists. To date, it has hosted hundreds of thousands of visitors from all walks of life. The villagers of Qianwei are known for their simple and kind-hearted nature, harmonious neighborhood relations, warm hospitality, and delicious home-cooked dishes.

The water here is clean, the soil unpolluted, and the air fresh. The village is surrounded by fragrant flowers and fruitful trees. Clear waters teem with fish and turtles, while greenhouses feature sprinkler irrigation, presenting a picturesque scene. Lush forests, birdsong, and floral scents fill the air. Strolling through the fitness parks hidden within the greenery feels like walking in a paradise, offering a profound sense of harmony between humans and nature. The park is divided into northern and southern scenic areas along an east-west central axis. Moving from east to west, it gradually unfolds four zones and four scenes: Pioneer Settlement, Fishing and Salt Prosperity, Pastoral Weaving, and Ancient Farming Traditions. In the Ancient Farming Traditions area, experiencing island farmhouse life is especially delightful. Try your hand at pushing stone mills, operating waterwheels, spinning iron hoops, playing brick-board games, pushing wheelbarrows, ginning cotton, spinning and weaving. You can also take part in traditional matchmaking games and even ride in a bridal sedan chair to play the role of a temporary rural groom.

Since the 1980s, Qianwei Village has been exploring the path of ecological agriculture development, steadfastly committing to an eco-friendly, environmentally sustainable direction. It has achieved remarkable results in ecological economics, environmental protection, spiritual civilization, and community building, earning high praise from central and municipal leaders. The village has received over 40 national and municipal honors, including the United Nations Global 500 Roll of Honour for Environmental Achievement, National Top 1,000 Afforestation and Greening Village, National Science Education Base, National Advanced Unit in Spiritual Civilization Construction, National Civilized Village, and Shanghai Environmental Education Base.
