Chongming Hanshan Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Hanshan Temple has a history of nearly 374 years. In the fourth year of the Tianqi era of the Ming Dynasty, Madam Zhu, wife of General Yang, arrived in Chongming from Suzhou by boat. She became a nun on the island, taking the Dharma name Dianxiu, and built a temple named Hanshan Temple, enshrining statues of Hanshan and Shide. The original Hanshan Temple extended north to the moat (now the road in front of Chongming Middle School), south to Renmin Road, west to the boundary along the moat (Agricultural Building), and east to the old large military drill ground (now Xiangming Agricultural Machinery Factory), comprising a total of 32 couplet-style temple buildings.

Apart from sharing the same name and deities, Chongming Hanshan Temple and Suzhou Hanshan Temple are also known for their competing poetic lines: 'Hanshan Temple at the eastern gate of Yingzhou, its midnight bells welcome guest boats' and 'Hanshan Temple outside Gusu City, its midnight bells reach guest boats.' Located at No. 21 Dongmen Road, Chengqiao Town, the temple covers an area of 494 square meters.

During a certain period, Hanshan Temple was damaged. After the Third Plenary Session of the 11th Central Committee, Venerable Juezi (the current abbot) and other monks returned to the temple to revive its incense offerings. In 1995, with approval from the religious affairs authorities, Hanshan Temple was opened to the public.
