Jiangnan Sanmin Cultural Village is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Jiangnan Sanmin Cultural Village is located in the central-northern part of Chongming Eco-Island and is a cultural village where visitors can see many folk collections. It is close to Qianwei Eco-Village, so you can visit both sites together or stay overnight at the scenic area and head to Dongping Forest Park the next day. Groups can enjoy some team-building activities, such as playing paintball (additional fee required).

The scenic area has many exhibition halls, which some visitors summarize as “things our grandfathers used, things our fathers knew, and things our children don’t understand.” Here, you can not only see vintage cigarette labels, carved Jiangnan-style beds, and dressing cases, but also learn about the weaving process of Chongming local cloth. In addition to visiting the exhibition halls, visitors can also experience old-time activities here, such as operating a treadwheel, walking on stilts, or rolling iron hoops (additional fee required), which can evoke many memories for those who lived through that era.

The highlight of the cultural village is the “Chinese Dragon” housed in the China Dragon Palace, which holds a Guinness World Record. The massive dragon is 36 meters long, and its scales are made from antique carved panels dating back 50 to 500 years. Visitors shouldn’t miss it. If you stay overnight, the village’s colorful lights at night are also a major attraction. Rooms in the scenic area cost around 200 yuan per night.

Transportation

Located in the central-northern part of Chongming Eco-Island, it can be reached by self-driving or public transport

1. Self-driving: From downtown Shanghai, you can depart via the Outer Ring Tunnel or Xiangyin Road Tunnel, then take Wuzhou Avenue – G1501 Shanghai Ring Expressway, directly to G40 Shanghai–Xi’an Expressway (Changjiang Tunnel and Bridge) to Chongming. Take Chenhai Highway – turn right onto Panlong Highway – turn left onto Beiyan Highway – turn right onto Linfeng Highway – continue straight on Linfeng Highway to reach Jiangnan Sanmin Cultural Village.

2. Public Transport:

① Line Shen-Chong 3 – Wenshui Road Station (Line 1 of the subway) goes via the Shanghai Changjiang Tunnel and Bridge to Chongming Ximen Bus Station. Transfer to the Nanmen Bus Station and then take the “Nandong Line” to get off at “Xianning Liangzhongchang Station,” which is Jiangnan Sanmin Cultural Village.

② Line Shen-Chong 6 – Jufeng Road Metro Station (Line 6 of the subway) goes via the Shanghai Changjiang Tunnel and Bridge to Chongming Nanmen Bus Station. Transfer to the “Nandong Line” to get off at “Xianning Liangzhongchang Station,” which is Jiangnan Sanmin Cultural Village.
