Tianma Mountain Deep Pit in Songjiang

The Tianma Mountain Deep Pit in Songjiang is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The Tianma Mountain Deep Pit in Songjiang is an artificial quarrying site. Quarrying began in 1950, and after the original small hill on the ground was completely excavated, by 2000 a pit nearly 70 meters deep had been formed, covering an area of approximately 36,800 square meters. The surrounding rock consists of andesite, and later rainwater collection turned it into a deep pool.

Currently, the supporting project of the Tianma Modern Service Industry Cluster and the Shanghai Shimao New Experience Project have commenced near the pit. It is positioned as an experience center, exotic rural resort, and consumption hub, which includes the “Geological Pit Five-Star Hotel” situated within the pit.

According to the plan, this “Geological Pit Five-Star Hotel” will feature a scenic presidential suite on the upper levels and underwater themed rooms below, built along the southern rock wall of the pit. The hotel has a total of 21 floors but only rises about 15 meters above ground level. Within the pit’s water, two levels of underwater themed guest rooms will be constructed using advanced aquarium design techniques, including artificial rock and coral reef designs, as well as aquarium environment styling, creating a novel sensation of exploring the ocean depths. Floors 17 from the water surface to ground level, and the two floors above ground, are designed to include presidential scenic rooms, standard guest rooms, an underwater restaurant, and cafes. All 400 guest rooms will have observation balconies, forming a contrast between the real and the illusory, movement and stillness, with a waterfall about 100 meters high designed on the opposite pit wall, offering guests a unique underwater world experience.

This five-star hotel will integrate the unique cliff resources and combine them with a scenic waterfall to form a sky garden, creating a one-of-a-kind ecological environment. The “Mist Water Scenic Garden” is located on the negative 16th floor of the main building’s south wing, creating a landscape where thin mist flows over rocks, providing a more private space for the entire atrium. The “Hidden Water Garden” is located on the negative 17th floor, with hanging tropical plants planted on each floor’s balcony, forming a plant waterfall full of tropical garden style, echoing the large scenic waterfall and creating a spectacular scene in the hotel atrium. Next to the five-star hotel, a theme park will also be built, featuring a suspension bridge connecting the east and west sides of the pit, providing conditions for extreme sports such as rock climbing, bungee jumping, and creek descending.

In addition, large-scale fitness and entertainment centers, an underwater world, water parks, cinemas, shopping malls, and themed resorts are planned as supporting service facilities near the hotel. The entire project incorporates green natural architectural concepts, striving to create a “sky garden that grows layer by layer, attached to a unique natural terrain.”
