Kura Sushi Opens Its Second Taiwan Store at GSS SOGO Taichung This Autumn

Japan’s top three conveyor belt sushi chain, Kura Sushi (くら寿司), entered Taiwan late last year with its first store at the intersection of Nanjing East Road and Songjiang Road. With great value-for-money offerings and fun crane games, the store has remained packed even half a year after opening. Recently, the official Facebook page announced that the second Taiwan location will be at GSS SOGO Taichung, with an expected opening in autumn (possibly September or October), and recruitment is currently underway.

Since the Kura Sushi Nanjing-Songjiang branch is still always full during meal times, is there any plan to open a second store in the Taipei area? Kura Sushi stated that the current confirmed plan is to open the Taichung store first. As for a second Taipei branch, they are still searching for a location, hoping to find a bigger space than the one on Nanjing-Songjiang Road to accommodate more guests.

Kura Sushi is one of Japan’s top three conveyor belt sushi chains, known for features such as touchscreen ordering, high-speed conveyor belts, time management systems (dishes left on the belt for too long are discarded), transparent covers on the conveyor that block dust and bacteria, automated plate counting, and a game that appears on the touchscreen after collecting five plates — win the game and a capsule toy falls out, featuring cute Kura Sushi-themed phone charms.
