Shanghai’s Songjiang District Central Park is located on Yuanyuan Road in Songjiang New City, north of the Songjiang District Government, northeast of Sixian Park, and east of the Songjiang Library. The park is shaded by lush greenery, offering pleasant scenery, with an artificial pond running from east to west, harmoniously blending with the surrounding European-style villas and government office complexes. Songjiang Central Park stretches eastward from the district administrative center to Shenjing Pond in the west, spanning 2,200 meters from east to west and 300 meters from north to south, covering an area of 660,000 square meters. It is one of the largest urban central parks in Shanghai to date. Construction began in December 2000, with the first phase completed in February 2001, the second phase in February 2002, and the park opened to the public in May 2004.

The park was designed and planned in sections by Canadian landscape firm Hassrll/WZMH and American EDSA, among others, with the theme of ecology and nature. The park features lush lawns, flowing streams, rolling slopes, and dense greenery. Over 40 species of trees, more than 30 types of shrubs, over 20 varieties of flowers, and six types of turf are planted throughout the park. A number of cultural facilities, including the District Youth Activity Center and the Library, are distributed within the park, creating a beautiful cultural and leisure environment for the people of Songjiang.

Dominated by vegetation, the park highlights a natural ambiance, while scattered small features such as corridors and sculptures add a humanistic touch. The cultural facilities in the park—including the District Youth Activity Center and the Library—are seamlessly integrated with the open layout of the Central Park. Set against the backdrop of greenery, they add a refined cultural atmosphere, making the space even more tranquil and captivating. Additionally, the park includes water-friendly platforms, the “Fishbone Bridge,” small green islands, and large lawns, making it a great spot for morning exercise and leisurely breaks. The scenery is especially enchanting when morning mist rises or evening glow spreads, leaving visitors reluctant to leave.
