Tomb of Chen Zilong

The Tomb of Chen Zilong is a Shanghai Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit and a patriotic education base.

The Tomb of Chen Zilong was built in memory of Chen Zilong, a late Ming Dynasty patriot who resisted the Qing invasion. It is located at the Guangfulin Community Management Station in Fangsong Subdistrict (formerly Guangfulin Village).

The entire cemetery covers an area of two mu, with a construction area of over 1,000 square meters. Inside stands a memorial stele for Chen Zilong. There are four stone tablets engraved with Chen Zilong’s life story and a carved portrait of him. The site also includes the Zhuanghong Pavilion, built in the 53rd year of the Qianlong reign during the Qing Dynasty (1788). The cemetery is open to visitors free of charge. The grounds are spacious and suitable for collective activities such as party oath ceremonies, tomb-sweeping during Qingming Festival, coming-of-age ceremonies, and Young Pioneers or Communist Youth League induction ceremonies.

Restoration began in 1987, and all work was completed in 1988. The newly renovated Chen Tomb features a granite floor, a four-tiered platform, and surrounding greenery. The gravestone in front bears a portrait of Chen Zilong and an inscription titled “A Brief Account of Chen Zilong” written by Gu Tinglong. The tomb gate is inscribed with “Ming Tomb of Chen Zilong” by Li Yimang. The Yuanjiang Pavilion has been rebuilt to its original appearance, and the tombstone engraved in the 51st year of the Qianlong reign remains standing at its original site.

On November 17, 1987, it was approved by the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government as a “Shanghai Cultural Relics Protection Unit.”
