Yaojiaquan Ancient Cultural Site

The Yaojiaquan Ancient Cultural Site is a protected cultural heritage site of Shanghai Municipality.

The Yaojiaquan Ancient Cultural Site (Yaojiaquan Guwenhua Yizhi) is situated in Yaojiaquan, Xiaokunshan Town, Songjiang District. In 1980, while plowing a field, local farmers discovered an ancient well. From the lower layers of the well and the exposed sections along both banks of the nearby newly dug river, dozens of artifacts from the Neolithic Age were collected, spread across an area of approximately 10,000 square meters. These include early pottery with impressed patterns typical of the Maqiao type culture, as well as various types of sand-tempered pottery fragments from the Songze culture type. In 1985, it was designated as a county-level protected site.
