Ancient Site of Chenshan

The Ancient Site of Chenshan is a protected cultural heritage site of Shanghai Municipality.

The Ancient Site of Chenshan is located on both sides of Shih River at the southern foot of Chenshan in Sheshan Town. Archaeological discoveries have identified it as an ancient cultural site dating back to the Shang and Zhou dynasties.

It was discovered in early 2009. Early in the planning and construction phase, Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden designated the Chenshan mountain area as a plant conservation zone and actively explored its historical and cultural resources. The garden offers guided historical and cultural tours and science education activities to visitors, achieving positive social impact. In 2013, Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden was designated as a district-level protected cultural heritage site, and in 2014, it was further recognized as a municipal-level protected cultural heritage site. The unveiling of the “Ancient Cultural Site of Chenshan” municipal heritage plaque marks a new stage in the cultural development of Chenshan. Making cultural heritage come alive is more than just words—moving forward, the garden will collaborate with various cultural resources to make greater contributions to the development of Chenshan’s tourism market and visitor services.

In 2013, Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden was designated as a district-level protected cultural heritage site, and in 2014, it was further recognized as a municipal-level protected cultural heritage site.
