Wusong Port Opening Square serves as a patriotic education base.

Wusong has long been known as the "Gateway to the Open Sea" and the "Key to Seven Provinces." After the Opium Wars, Wusong underwent port opening twice — in the 24th year of the Guangxu reign during the Qing Dynasty (1898) and again in 1920 — enduring a century of dramatic change. To commemorate the centennial history of Wusong’s port opening, the People's Government of Baoshan District built and renovated Wusong Port Opening Square in October 2002. The square covers an area of 10,000 square meters and features two shell-shaped pavilions. Below the platform, there is a 300-square-meter activity room, and a 280-meter-long relief on the flood control wall in the southern part of the square depicts the century-long history of Wusong’s port opening.
