The large sculpture of the three armed uprisings of Shanghai workers is a patriotic education base.

To commemorate the 60th anniversaries of the founding of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, the Shanghai Federation of Trade Unions, and the May Thirtieth Movement, the sculpture was unveiled on May 28, 1985. Originally placed in the roadside square of the West Shanghai Workers' Cultural Palace, it was relocated to the South Lawn on May 26, 1999. The front of the sculpture’s base is engraved with twelve large characters reading “Commemorating the Three Armed Uprisings of Shanghai Workers” and the words “Shanghai Federation of Trade Unions, May 1985.” Standing atop the base is a group of giant standing figures, majestic and upright, recreating the heroic fighting spirit of the Shanghai working class. On both sides of the base are two sets of reliefs depicting the heroic deeds of Shanghai workers uniting with the people of Shanghai under the leadership of the Communist Party of China during the three armed struggles on October 24, 1926; February 22 and March 22, 1927, overthrowing the reactionary warlord rule and welcoming the Northern Expeditionary Army of the National Revolutionary Army to Shanghai. The reliefs also portray the heroic spirit of Shanghai workers’ picket team members raising the “Shanghai Workers’ Picket Team” flag, charging fearlessly toward the enemy amid fierce enemy gunfire. The relief scenes include close-up portraits of four figures, capturing the illustrious images of the leaders of the three armed uprisings.
