The Sculpture Group of the Underground Young Pioneers serves as a patriotic education base.

During the First Revolutionary Civil War period, the Communist Party of China established the "Labor Pioneer Corps" in Shanghai. They actively participated in the May Thirtieth Movement and the Third Armed Uprising of Shanghai Workers, becoming a proactive force in the revolutionary tide. During the Second Revolutionary Civil War period, the underground Party organization in Shanghai founded the "Red Pioneer Corps," which initiated the "Little Teachers" movement. During the War of Resistance against Japan and the Liberation War, the "Children’s Drama Troupe" was formed, the "Children’s Newspaper" was published, and the "Underground Young Pioneers" were organized. The children posted slogans, gathered intelligence on the enemy, exposed the crimes of the Kuomintang, and made significant contributions to the liberation of Shanghai.

In May 1990, under the sponsorship of 32 organizations including the Shanghai Federation of Trade Unions, and organized by the Shanghai Association for Children and Youth Workers and the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Gardens and Greenery, the Sculpture Group of the Underground Young Pioneers was established on the eastern part of the central lawn in Changfeng Park, Putuo District, to commemorate the revolutionary achievements of Shanghai’s children during the New Democratic Revolution.

The Sculpture Group of the Underground Young Pioneers consists of four bronze relief panels, embedded in a granite wall, with inscriptions commemorating the heroic deeds of revolutionary children engraved on the back of the stone wall. At the highest frame of the monument, the star-and-torch emblem of the Young Pioneers stands tall—it is a bronze emblem approximately three meters high. On the memorial platform, a stainless steel statue, four meters tall, depicts a Young Pioneer of today pledging allegiance to communism and sounding the horn to march forward. At the entrance lies a massive stone inscribed with Kang Keqing’s inscription: “Sculpture Group of the Underground Young Pioneers.”
