Wangjiang Tower

Wangjiang Tower was first built in 1908. Zhou Shumu, then Governor of Heilongjiang, "longed to cruise the rivers and lakes to enjoy the scenery along the water," and invited Zhang Chaoyong twice to design and renovate Cangxi Park (now Longsha Park). Outside the southern wall, a ditch was dug to channel water from the Nenjiang River, and soil was piled up on the western side of the ditch to form an artificial hill. At the top of the hill, a thatched pavilion was built, initially named Weiyu Pavilion, where visitors could gaze westward at the sparkling river and lush green trees along the bank. In 1930, the thatched pavilion was rebuilt into a brick-and-wood structure. The tower is wider from north to south than from east to west, stands 25 meters tall, and covers an area of approximately 220 square meters.

It underwent two renovations in 1950 and 1979, during which stone steps, stone walls, stone staircases, and screens were added. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Party and state leaders including -, -, -, -, and - visited Qiqihar and toured Wangjiang Tower to enjoy the scenery. On July 21, 1964, Chairman -, Vice Chairman -, and Vice Chairman - inspected Qiqihar and visited Longsha Park. From the tower, they enjoyed the refreshing view of the shimmering waters of the Nenjiang River and the panoramic beauty of Qiqihar. Inspired by the scene, Marshal Zhu inscribed the three characters “Wangjiang Tower” (Tower Overlooking the River), which were later made into a long plaque with a black background and golden characters and hung under the upturned eaves—hence the name “Wangjiang Tower.” - personally inscribed the plaque “Longsha Wanli” (Ten Thousand Li of Longsha). In 1987, Wangjiang Tower was designated as a municipal-level key cultural relics protection unit by the Qiqihar Municipal Government.
