The Site Where Martyr Ma Shitu Was Killed

The Site Where Martyr Ma Shitu Was Killed is a classic red tourism attraction.

Located in the northern part of Qiqihar’s downtown area, within the premises of the City No. 2 Hospital. Originally an independent high-end residence built during the late Qing and early Republican period, it covers a floor area of 357 square meters. In December 1945, this was the residence of Yu Yifu, Chairman of the Nenjiang Provincial Government.

On the evening of December 24 that year, reactionary KMT official Zhao Yueshan, together with secret agents from the Military Statistics Bureau, sneaked into the residence compound late at night in an attempt to assassinate Chairman Yu Yifu but mistakenly entered the room of Ma Shitu, the acting secretary-general of the provincial government. To protect his leaders and comrades, Ma Shitu faced death bravely and sacrificed himself heroically at the age of only 42.

To commemorate the martyr and educate future generations, the Qiqihar Municipal Government has designated the site as a municipal-level cultural relics protection unit and a patriotic education base.
