Hongxing Huoji River National Wetland Park is a national-level wetland park.

Huoji River National Wetland Park is situated in the Huojihe Forest Farm of Hongxing District, Yichun City, 138 kilometers from downtown Yichun. It is a comprehensive national wetland park integrating wetland conservation and restoration, public education, scientific research, rational utilization of wetland resources, wetland sightseeing experiences, and leisure tourism.

The Lesser Khingan Mountains are a major mountain range in northern China. The area where the Huoji River Wetland is located belongs to the inland wetland type on the northern slope of the Lesser Khingan Mountains, featuring a representative and typical forest swamp wetland ecosystem. The park contains five types of wetlands, covering a total area of 2,019 hectares. Major rivers within the Huoji River Wetland include the Huoji River, Kustu River, Erpi River, and Kurbin River, all of which eventually flow into the Heilongjiang River, making it one of the important upper reaches water conservation areas of the Heilongjiang River Basin.

The flat terrain, complex wetland types, and large wetland area play an extremely vital role in water conservation, preventing mountain floods, effectively replenishing groundwater, and mitigating droughts and floods. This has significant importance for both the industrial and agricultural production as well as ecological and environmental protection in the northern forested region of the Lesser Khingan Mountains and the Heilongjiang River Basin. In addition to the five types of wetlands, the area also features extensive mixed coniferous and broad-leaved forests as well as broadleaf forests. With rich species diversity and high biodiversity, it is one of the regions abundant in biological variety.

Huoji River National Wetland Park is home to five Class I nationally protected animals, including the sable, golden eagle, white-naped crane, red-crowned crane, and oriental white stork. There are also 42 species of Class II nationally protected animals: such as the black bear, brown bear, lynx, snow hare, and Eurasian spoonbill. The excellent ecological environment, abundant species, and diverse landscapes in the Huoji River Wetland together form a typical boreal temperate mixed coniferous and broad-leaved forest plant community. This makes it an ideal base for conservation, scientific research, and public education. The establishment of the park, the implementation of conservation and restoration projects, along with the improvement of infrastructure and tourist reception facilities, significantly supplements the reception capacity of surrounding tourism markets and enriches the variety of regional tourism products.

Walking along the boardwalks of Huoji River Wetland Park, you’ll enjoy fresh air and the faint scent of grass carried by the breeze, which is refreshing and uplifting. Cute little animals in the park peek at visitors from afar, showcasing the harmonious coexistence between humans and nature. Occasionally, a series of wild ducks will suddenly dart out from the grass, giving visitors quite a start.

On the distant water surface, grayish-white wild ducks are playing with their companions, occasionally letting out cheerful calls, while several unidentified water birds skim across the sky overhead.
