On September 25, the G422 high-speed EMU train from Nanning, Guangxi Province, to Beijing was launched. From now on, travel between the capital of Guangxi and Beijing will enter the “half-day journey” era, making Nanning the first among China’s five autonomous region capitals to have a high-speed rail connection to Beijing. As an important source of outbound tourists for the national tourism market, the realization of this “half-day journey” will undoubtedly reinvigorate the entire Guangxi tourism market.

Connecting “Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou,” Guangxi accelerates its high-speed rail network development

Nanning and Beijing are approximately 2,500 kilometers apart. Before the high-speed rail was launched, the train journey from Nanning to Beijing took 27 hours. Now, that time has been cut in half to just 13.5 hours. The spatial and temporal distance between the two cities has entered the “half-day journey” era. The newly built line will run along high-speed rail routes such as Liuzhou, Hengliu, and the Beijing-Guangzhou line, passing through cities including Shijiazhuang, Zhengzhou, Wuhan, Changsha, Guilin, and Liuzhou. Travel between these high-speed rail-connected cities will become extremely convenient.

For Guangxi, the launch of high-speed rail lines from cities like Beijing, Wuhan, and Shijiazhuang to Nanning is just the beginning of its accelerated high-speed rail network development and efforts to connect with “Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou.” By the end of this year, high-speed rail lines from Nanning to Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Nanchang will also be launched. Coupled with the opening of the Yunnan-Guangxi and Guiyang-Guangzhou high-speed railways next year, Nanning’s high-speed rail coverage of “Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou” and surrounding cities will become a reality. With the successive completion of these high-speed rail lines, travel time from major domestic cities to Nanning will be significantly reduced, which is undoubtedly tremendous good news for Guangxi’s tourism market.

Guangxi’s tourism market enters a “golden era,” with vacation apartments becoming a highlight

It can be foreseen that the establishment of the high-speed rail network will further unlock the immense potential of Guangxi’s tourism market. Guangxi is a major tourism province with abundant tourism resources. The provincial capital, Nanning, known as “half city greenery, half city towers,” boasts lush shade, blooming flowers, and a rich, colorful ethnic culture that attracts many visitors. Guilin is an internationally renowned tourist city, widely celebrated for its reputation as having “the finest scenery under heaven,” with the Li River and Yangshuo being dream destinations for countless people. There are also beautiful coastal cities like Beihai and the mountain-surrounded Liuzhou... Every year, a huge number of tourists visit Guangxi, and this number is set to grow even larger after the high-speed rail network is established.

With the increase in the number of tourists, their demands are also becoming more diverse. As travel time is greatly reduced, there will be an explosive growth in demand for family trips, gatherings with friends, and corporate team-building activities. However, traditional hotels are finding it increasingly difficult to meet the needs of these travelers, while vacation apartments, which have gained popularity in recent years, are becoming a beautiful new option. Compared to traditional hotels, vacation apartments offer three major advantages: cost-effectiveness, a home-like experience, and more space. For half the price of a traditional hotel, travelers can enjoy the fun of a family trip in an apartment where they can even cook their own meals.

It is understood that vacation apartments have already begun to take shape in Guangxi. Taking Tujia.com, a leading domestic vacation apartment booking platform, as an example, Tujia.com has three properties in Guangxi: Guilin Tujia Sweetome Resort Hotel (Yangshuo Tianlun), Guilin Tujia Sweetome Resort Apartment (Qixing District), and Nanning Tujia Sweetome Service Apartment (Baoli Tongxinyuan). These properties have a total of around 200 rooms. In the near future, even more properties will be established in Guangxi, allowing an increasing number of tourists visiting the region to experience this “different” type of accommodation.
