Since December 20, 1999, when Macao returned to mainland China, it marked the end of over 400 years of Portuguese rule and left behind many beautiful colonial buildings and cultural heritage. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region. On the morning of December 20, a solemn flag-raising ceremony will be held. In the afternoon, there will be a joyous “Andy Lau Wonderful World Concert & Mass Sports & Arts Gala” that brings everyone together, and in the evening, a spectacular fireworks display is planned. Visitors can also explore high-quality exhibitions such as “Return to One” and the “Anniversary Tribute Exhibition” at the Macao Museum of Art and the Macao Handover Gifts Museum.
On the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region, a flag-raising ceremony will be held at the Macao SAR Government at 8:00 AM. Numerous residents and tourists will gather at the Golden Lotus Square to watch the Chinese national flag and the Macao SAR flag rise slowly, witnessing this important moment for Macao, followed by a series of exciting performances. At 8:30 AM, the People’s Liberation Army Macao Garrison will also hold a flag-raising ceremony in front of their barracks building, a moving and magnificent scene.
On the evening of the 10th anniversary, Hong Kong superstar Andy Lau will hold an audiovisually dazzling concert at the Macao Stadium. The entire performance is based on Andy Lau’s “Wonderful World World Tour,” featuring interactive moments with tens of thousands of live audience members and incorporating the spirit of sports into everyday life. Tickets for this spectacular mass sports and arts gala are not assigned seating, so those who wish to attend are advised to arrive early to secure a good spot.
