The PLA "August 1st" Ski Resort

The PLA "August 1st" Ski Resort is a classic red tourism destination.

The PLA "August 1st" Ski Resort was originally located at Dabeicha in Shuangfeng Forest Farm. Built in 1960, its original site was an ice rink established by the Heilongjiang Provincial Sports Commission. In April 1960, due to the long snow season, high-quality snow, and thick snow layers in Shuangfeng Forest Farm under the Da Hailin Forestry Bureau, the General Staff Department of the Chinese People's Liberation Army and the Shenyang Military Region selected this location and built a training base on the alpine ice rink at Dabeicha in Shuangfeng Forest Farm. Later, due to inconvenient transportation, it was relocated to a site 3.5 kilometers from Shuangfeng Forest Farm and was named the "August 1st" Ski Resort.

Since its establishment, more than 5 million yuan has been invested, constructing over 7,000 square meters of barracks and covering a total area of 230 hectares. The resort features one alpine ski run that is 1,000 meters long, 150 meters wide, with a maximum slope of 27 degrees, a minimum slope of 11 degrees, and an average slope of 24 degrees, as well as an automated tow lift ski run that is 1,200 meters long for athletes to ascend and descend the mountain. The cross-country ski trail is loop-shaped, with a shooting range measuring 50 meters by 50 meters on the eastern side of the trail. The "August 1st" Ski Resort operates from November to April each year. Athletes trained here have participated in numerous national and international competitions, producing many renowned winter sports athletes such as Wang Jinfen and Yu Shumin for our country, bringing honor to the PLA and the nation. It is known as the cradle of China’s skiing champions.

The PLA "August 1st" Ski Resort constructed a standard freestyle aerials ski run, 30 meters wide, in May 2002, and successfully hosted the National Freestyle Skiing Championships on March 22, 2003. The three-day competition featured finals for both adult and junior divisions, with participating teams from six entities: Changchun City, Mudanjiang City, Harbin City, the Heilongjiang Provincial Ice and Snow Training Center, Shenyang Sport University, and the PLA.
