The Beikeng hiking trail in Fengyuan District is a popular local hiking route. Local residents once suggested to Mayor Lin Chia-lung that the environment of the Beikeng stream alongside the trail be improved. Subsequently, the Taichung City Water Resources Bureau carried out a series of maintenance works on the stream environment and drainage system improvements. The stream dredging has now been completed, and foundation reinforcement has been conducted at areas where the existing stream embankments have eroded. The project to improve the gully drainage system is scheduled for construction in November, which is expected to further enhance the local recreational environment.
Water Resources Bureau Director Zhou Ting-zhang said that Mayor Lin had visited the Beikeng hiking trail and listened to feedback from hikers. The public suggested improving issues such as poor drainage in certain gullies and the environment of the Beikeng stream along the trail. Following this, Mayor Lin instructed the Water Resources Bureau to expedite drainage system improvements and stream environment maintenance.
The Water Resources Bureau pointed out that regarding the environmental issues of the Beikeng stream, the dredging has already been completed, and overgrown bamboo and trees on both banks have been trimmed. To optimize the water area environment next to the trail, foundation reinforcement has been carried out at sections where the existing stream embankments have eroded. At the same time, safety facilities such as block-shaped guardrails along the hiking trail have been repaired to protect public safety.
Zhou Ting-zhang stated that in response to the issue of poor drainage in some gullies along the hiking trail, the Water Resources Bureau has dispatched workers to clear silted areas and has initiated procurement for improving the gully drainage system. The improvement works are scheduled to begin in November this year and are expected to provide residents with a higher-quality recreational environment.
