Linyuan is located in the western part of Changchun and was first built during the Japanese puppet regime period. According to local residents over eighty years old, the park was established when a Japanese man named Murata enclosed the area to plant trees, which led to the park being named Murata Park. It covered an area of approximately 70 hectares.

After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the park was returned to the people. However, due to years of neglect and lack of management, before the Liberation War, the area was in ruins, overgrown with weeds. After the municipal construction of Changchun began, the site was taken over by the Municipal Maintenance Brigade of the Changchun Urban Construction Bureau and converted into Xi’an Nursery. Later, in 1962, it was handed over to the Kuancheng District Gardening Management Office. Since the Liberation, we have started organizing the existing trees here and planted many new ones on the original basis, enriching and increasing both the variety and number of trees. Surveys show that the park boasts a rich diversity of plants, including various rare tree species such as Japanese linden, Manchurian ash, flowering ash, euonymus, and Securinega suffruticosa, among more than 80 types of arbor species and over a hundred types of herbaceous plants. After the reform and opening-up, due to the high importance placed on greening and urban development by leaders and governments at all levels, and while building material civilization, efforts were also accelerated to enhance spiritual civilization. Therefore, in 1998, the municipal government decided to invest in building Linyuan Park here. It now covers an area of 22 hectares. After nearly two years of construction, Linyuan has begun to take shape. The facilities in the park have become increasingly complete, making it a great destination for recreation and leisure.

Having weathered over eighty years of ups and downs, Linyuan still maintains its original natural forest state. It is one of the well-preserved primeval forest parks located in the center of a provincial capital city in China.
