A 2-Day Light Urban Trip in Taichung: 9 Must-Visit Popular Attractions Perfect for Couples and Families

Come travel to Taichung ! The weekend is the perfect time for a light urban trip to Taichung. I’m sharing an itinerary I’ve done before — great for couples on a date or families traveling together. If you’re too lazy to plan your own route or not sure how to arrange your stops, you can take a look at the following spots. Wishing you all a wonderful holiday.

Huayu Secret Garden - Senqing: A City’s Hidden Metasequoia Secret Spot !

This isa scenic park located at the intersection of Wucyuan West Road and Yongchun East 7th Road in South District.Under the planning of the local developer Huayu Construction, an artificial lake was created here, and it is currently one of the hottest photo spots in Taichung!!If you’re driving here,it’s recommended to park along Yichang 5th Street or Yichang 6th Street..

Once you step inside, you’ll feel a sudden sense of openness~~~ The small paths paved with construction materials give off a serene, zen-like aesthetic ^________^ The Huayu Secret Garden is surrounded by greenery, almost like a little hidden oasis in the city. It’s a nice place to walk around if you live nearby or are just passing through.

The area isn’t huge, but the landscaping is quite beautiful and makes for great photos!! If you’re not into taking pictures, you won’t stay long — it only takes about ten minutes to walk through @V ! If you’re visiting Taichung, it’s recommended to add this as a side trip~

Huayu Secret Garden - Senqing Landscape Garden

Address: No. 903, Section 2, Wucyuan West Road, South District, Taichung City
Lights are on every night until 9 PM for a period of six months, and admission is free.

By bus: Routes 75, 56, or 89 can get you there (free for rides under 10 km)

Wufeng Lin Family Garden

The “Wufeng Lin Family Garden” was built starting in the Qing Dynasty, covering an area of 15,000 pyeong, and is one of Taiwan’s last remaining completely preserved, exquisitely ornate, and now rare historic sites !
The heritage area of the Lin Family Garden is divided into: Lower House, Upper House, and Leyuan (Garden). Currently, only theLower House and Leyuan (within Mingtai High School) are open to the public..

The area was once called “A-zhao-wu” in old times. The Wufeng Lin Family Garden has been under construction since the Qing Dynasty. Walking into the century-old Lin family halls gives off an air of grandeur, reflecting the prosperity of that era. However, after the 921 earthquake in 1999, the Lin Family historic structures were severely damaged, nearly destroyed entirely. It took nearly 14 years and significant resources to restore them.

It finally reopened to the public in 2014. Xiaojie had been looking forward to it for a long time (((clapping!!))). Currently, only group entry and exit are allowed, but the guides’ commentary is very engaging and not boring at all ^_^Wufeng Lin Family Garden It's really worth a visit!! (Highly recommended!)

By Bus:
1. Take bus no. 50 or 201 from Taichung Railway Station to Wufeng Post Office Stop (Zhongzheng Rd.) → walk about 5 minutes to reach the garden.
2. Take bus no. 151 from Chaoma via the High-Speed Rail Station to Wufeng Post Office Stop (Zhongzheng Rd.) → walk about 5 minutes to reach the garden.
3. Take Ubus lines Nantou–Taichung or Nantou–Fengyuan → get off at Wufeng Stop (Zhongzheng Rd.) → walk about 5 minutes to reach the garden.

Guangfu New Village

The “Guangfu New Village” in Wufeng is full of nostalgic military dependents’ village vibes—it was also a filming location for the Taiwanese movie “Together.” It’s also a popular spot for wedding photography shoots. You now have another reason to spend an afternoon in Taichung on your holiday :)

Both Foodie Tribe and Travel King have featured it—must-try food in Guangfu New Village: Guangfu New Village Beef Noodles, a must-eat:Beef noodles, marinated meat platter　…It’s just a street vendor, offering military dependents’ village-style food—lots of ingredients, cheap, and generous portions. The boss proudly says the place is almost packed during meal times, haha!! If you want to eat here, be sure to take note~~ Notes~~

Wufeng’s ‘Guangfu New Village’After a major renovation, among the inconspicuous old houses scattered through the alleys, every shop has been thoughtfully designed~ (So great!) I love the atmosphere here—the quiet and cozy vibe.

(Most of the in-store creative products cannot be photographed, FYI~)Each item is one of a kind, super photogenic and great for shopping XDDDD Come for a stroll when you have time~ You can find lots of treasures here too. Support these passionate young shop owners who love creating—especially the literary youths out there~

Guangfu New Village

Address: Xinsheng Rd., Wufeng District, Taichung City (near the 921 Earthquake Museum)

By Bus:
1. Ubus no. 50 (Wenying Children’s Park – 921 Earthquake Education Park) goes directly to the park’s external parking lot.
2. Ubus no. 59 (Jiushè Park – Jiuzhèng) – get off at Guangfu New Village Stop.
3. Taichung Bus no. 201 (Xinmin Senior High School – Asia University), no. 107 (Liming New Village – Jiuzhèng), no. 6871,
get off at Kengkouli (Guangfu New Village) Stop.
4. Ubus no. 151 (City Police Bureau – Chaoyang University of Technology), no. 151 branch line (New Municipal Government Center – Asia University),
get off at Kengkouli (Guangfu New Village) Stop.
**If taking the bus to Kengkouli (Guangfu New Village) Stop, walk about 10–15 minutes along Xinsheng Rd. to reach the destination.

Asia University Tadao Ando Art Museum

Taiwan’s most beautiful university, “Asia University,” has a campus full of exotic charm. Its buildings include famous Greek domes and the renowned Roman Colosseum—popular spots for idol dramas, commercials, and wedding photos. Many of its structures have become top choices for couples shooting their wedding photos in central Taiwan.

Additionally, there's the “Asia University Tadao Ando Museum of Art,” designed by Japanese master architect Tadao Ando. It’s Taiwan’s first Ando-designed building and also the world’s first Ando art museum on a university campus (quite the attraction!! With its simple lines and understated gray exterior, it may not stand out at first glance. I think Ando’s architecture aims to blend into life and achieve a harmonious balance of elements ^^

Opening Hours: Tuesday to Friday, Sunday 9:30 – 17:00 (Closed on Mondays)

By Bus:
1. Take the TRA to Taichung Station, exit from the old station, walk to the intersection of Taiwan Boulevard and Luchuan East Street,
then transfer to Taichung Bus No. 201 or 108 to Asia University Station. It takes about 40 minutes to arrive.
2. Take Taichung Bus No. 100 to Asia University Station. It takes about 30 minutes from Taichung Station.
Take Tonglian Bus No. 50 to Guangfu New Village Station, walk about 200 meters forward, turn right onto Liufeng Road, and walk about 10 minutes to reach the destination.

Rainbow Village

Beats Taipei 101!! Rainbow Village becomes an international IG hotspotAccording to UK travel website“Culture Trip”reports“Taiwan’s Top 10 Instagram Spots”and Japan’s well-known travel website H.I.S voted it“Taiwan’s Most Wanted Photo Spot”, Taichung’s Nantun District Rainbow Village is on both lists—proving the charm of Rainbow Village has gone global!!

Originally known as Gancheng No. 6 Village, this small, old-style military dependents’ village was reborn through the brush of an elderly veteran. The vibrant rainbow colors and playful, heartwarming designs breathed new life into the village, sparing it from demolition. Plan a colorful little trip to Rainbow Village in Nantun, Taichung, and enjoy a vivid summer adventure this holiday ^______^/

Gan Cheng Liu Village – Rainbow Grandma’s Village

Address: Lane 56, Chun’an Road, Nantun District, Taichung City (next to Ling Tung University of Technology)
By bus: From Taichung Railway Station → take Bus No. 27 (Ling Tung University route $35) at Taichung Bus Station → get off at Gan Cheng Liu Village →
Walk toward the archway of Gan Cheng Liu Village → go straight down the small lane opposite Chun’an Elementary School’s main gate → turn right to see Chun’an Park → then you’ll find Rainbow Grandma’s Village.

Qiuhonggu Valley Plaza

Located at the intersection of Henan Road, Taichung Port Road, Civic North 7th Road, and Chaofu Road, within the Phase VII Urban Redevelopment Area of Taichung City, it is touted as the most expensive park in Taiwan—Qiuhonggu Valley Plaza.

Built at a cost of NT$230 million and covering an area of 3 hectares, Qiuhonggu Valley was originally an abandoned, desolate puddle in central Taichung. After its completion in 2012, it transformed into a new tourist attraction, resembling an oasis in the city. Media outlets dubbed itthe “Lung of the City”.

Coupled with continuous media coverage, it quickly became a viral new leisure spot in Taichung. Even passersby can’t help but be drawn to this strikingly vibrant green oasis!!! (Staring intensely)

The most unique feature of this ecological park is: “It’s built below ground level!! The lake inside is an artificial flood detention basin.” It functions as a green ecological pool, flood detention, drainage, and air quality regulation system, and the temperature here also feels less stuffy. Especially at night, Qiuhonggu Valley becomes even more tranquil and romantic, attracting many couples to stroll and chat here!!!! (Taking notes)

Qiuhonggu Valley Plaza

Address: Section 3, Henan Road, Xitun District, Taichung City, Civic North 7th Road (near the intersection of Section 2, Zhonggang Road, and Chaofu Road, beside Tunghai Bus Transfer Station)
By bus: Take Taichung Bus No. 27, 103, or 106 and get off at Teachers’ New Village Stop, then walk toward Section 3, Henan Road.

National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts

Also known as the National Taichung Museum of Fine Arts, or simply the National Art Museum, it isTaiwan’s only national art museum, covering approximately 102,000 square meters (including the sculpture park within the grounds), and is alsoone of the largest art museums in Asia.

Locals in Taichung are probably quite familiar with this place, not just for viewing exhibitions but also as a great spot for leisurely strolls. It has become an essential stop on any city tour of Taichung.

The museum houses a rich collection of artistic and cultural works, attracting scholars and art enthusiasts alike. Coupled with its stylish and elegant architecture, it greatly enhances the literary atmosphere and charm of the city.

Spanning over 9,000 pyeong, the museum’s architectural spaces offer dynamic plays of light and shadow as time and weather change. While exploring indoors, you’ll also find various art sculptures and landscape artworks outside — be sure to pause and admire these creatively designed pieces^^ It’s truly a great leisure destination for Taichung residents, so come explore the National Art Museum with Xiaojie！

Caowu Path Plaza

When it comes to “Caowu Path Plaza,” it’s truly an ideal spot for family fun!! Located at the heart of Taichung’s Caowu Path, the sunken architectural design encourages visitors to slow down and savor a rare moment of leisure. You can take a stroll, go for a bike ride, browse charming cafes along both sides of the green promenade, or explore creative cultural shops～

It turns into a small market on holidays, so weekends are the best time to visit—expect a livelier atmosphere～ You definitely won’t get bored here^____^(smiley…)

Caowu Path Plaza

By bus: Yingcai-Xiangshang Intersection: No. 27, No. 51; Caowu Path (Citizen Square): No. 81, No. 107, No. 11
By high-speed rail: Take the free shuttle bus No. 159 and get off at Guangsan SOGO (Meicun Rd.) stop, then walk 12 minutes
