Changchun Peony Garden

The Changchun Peony Garden was first built in 1998, covering an area of 6.56 hectares.

In early 2005, the garden introduced over ten thousand new peony and peony-like paeonia plants. Among them, there were 2,304 Central Plains peonies, spanning five color series and over 30 varieties; 5,182 Gansu peonies, across seven color series and 153 varieties; 1,926 paeonia lactiflora plants, across six color series and 63 varieties, along with some newly introduced foreign peony varieties.

To achieve a natural ecological landscape where peonies blend harmoniously with rocks, woods, pathways, and grass, and guided by a people-oriented design philosophy, the entire garden was meticulously planned into four zones and six themed gardens. Zone one is the block planting area, zone two is the sparse woodland peony arrangement area, zone three is the lawn peony arrangement area, and zone four is the water and rock peony arrangement area. The six themed gardens, designed as “gardens within a garden,” include: the Centennial Peony Garden, the Peony Specimen Garden, the Purple-Speckled Peony Garden, the Central Plains Peony Garden, the Foreign Peony Garden, and the Paeonia Garden. The boundaries of the garden are naturally divided by scenic walking paths. Through careful adjustments, the layout achieves a rational structure, a prominent centerpiece, clear sections, and a well-balanced, staggered arrangement. Small bridges and water features bring liveliness, while rocks offer a sense of stability and antiquity, and flowers burst with vibrant energy. Lush lawns provide a refreshing atmosphere, winding paths invite exploration, all reflecting the high-standard aesthetic pursuit of landscaping in Changchun.

After more than ten years of continuous improvement, the Peony Garden has become the only premium park in Jilin Province and even across the entire Northeast China region. The garden is dotted with renowned flowers and valuable trees, including over ten thousand peonies, more than two thousand paeonia lactiflora plants, as well as various blossoms such as dahlias and thorny roses. The garden’s fish pond also raises a variety of ornamental fish in summer for visitors to enjoy. The pavilions and benches in the garden offer places to rest, and uniquely shaped rocks provide visual delight. During the blooming season each year, the garden attracts over 100,000 visitors daily.
