Sanjiangkou Wetland Reserve

The Sanjiangkou Wetland Reserve is located 40 kilometers from the city center and covers an area of 30 million square meters, making it the largest wetland reserve in Songyuan City. It serves as the main waterway from Songyuan to Harbin. Here, the Nen River, the First Songhua River, and the Second Songhua River converge to form three distinct water channels. Due to differences in water quality, the flows display varying colors, creating a spectacular sight—hence the name "Sanjiangkou" (Three Rivers Mouth). This area is a paradise for wildlife. Nearly a hundred species of aquatic and terrestrial plants thrive here, including well-known varieties such as reeds, cattails, water chestnuts, gorgon fruits, water lilies, alkali grass, and daylilies. There are also nearly 200 species of birds, waterfowl, and fish, such as cranes, herons, geese, ducks, eagles, orioles, and cuckoos. Notable fish species include the famous “Three Flowers and Five Snails,” as well as carp, crucian carp, silver carp, and grass carp. The area has been designated as a provincial-level nature reserve. Plans are underway for its development, including the construction of a bird-watching platform, bird-watching boardwalks, an observation tower, a central square, and a hotel.
