The Riverside Tourism Development Zone is located in Ningjiang District, Songyuan City, Jilin Province, on the right bank of the Second Songhua River, facing the Horqin Left Rear Banner of the Mongolian Autonomous County across the river to the southwest. The zone is divided into four major sections: the Religious and Folk Tourism Area is located within the Shanyou Forest Farm in Ningjiang District (featuring attractions such as Longhua Temple, Longhua Lucky Land, Forest Tourism Resort, and Folk Performance Square); the Nordic-style Tourism Area lies along the Songhua River between the Songyuan Hotel and Sanjiangkou (with sights such as Huanyu Pond, Dawn Garden, Crucian Marsh, Ring Lake, and Wetland Park); the Wetland Ecotourism Area spans the Songhua River section between Sanjiangkou and Songyuan Port (including the Sanjiangkou Wetland Reserve, Songzhao Wetlands, and Songyuan Port); and the Riverside Leisure and Recreation Area is located between the Songyuan Hotel and Songyuan Factory No. 0 (featuring sites such as Riverside Park, Riverside Green Belt, and River Center Island).

Overall positioning of the tourism area: Leveraging the resources of the Songhua River and its adjacent land, centered around wetland ecology, highlighted by Nordic charm, and focused on Buddhist culture, the goal is to create a large-scale tourism belt that integrates leisure for residents, sightseeing for tourists, mass entertainment, and vacationing.

The Riverside Tourism Development Zone serves as the flagship attraction in the development of Ningjiang District’s tourism industry and is a pillar sector of the local tourism economy. Over the past few years, with strong government attention and policy support, the zone has taken initial shape. Especially, the riverside scenic belt remains a largely untouched area, boasting vast and undamaged ecosystems with high development potential. As latecomers, we can learn from others’ successful experiences, avoid unnecessary detours, rise rapidly, and develop the Riverside Scenic Belt of Ningjiang District as an “enhanced version” and “upgraded edition” of Northeast China tourism.
