Fulong Temple in Wafangdian is a cultural tourism attraction.

The ancient Fulong Temple is located directly north of Fuzhou, a historic cultural city in the central part of Wafangdian City, Dalian. It sits on the highest and longest mountain range in the Fuzhou area. This mountain connects to General Rock in Beihai, forming a continuous landscape of mountain and sea that resembles a coiled dragon when viewed from afar. Fulong Mountain forms the dragon’s head, while the peculiar rocks emerging from Beihai—known as General Rock—are considered the dragon’s tail.

In front of Fulong Mountain lies the Pearl River, which produces precious pearls that were tribute offerings throughout various dynasties. Historical records indicate that the Western Fulong Temple was originally the earliest temple in the Dalian area. The ancient Fulong Temple was first built during the Tang Dynasty and has a history of over a thousand years. Its scale gradually expanded during the Ming Dynasty and reached its peak in the Qing Dynasty. It underwent multiple expansions and renovations during the reigns of Emperors Kangxi, Qianlong, Daoguang, Guangxu, and in the folk era, with numerous inscribed stone tablets remaining today. Originally an official temple, Fulong Temple integrated Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism. The reconstructed halls include: the Hall of the Goddess, the Heavenly King Hall, the God of Wealth Hall, the Dragon King Hall, the Hall of Fortune, Prosperity, and Longevity, the Thousand Buddha Cave, the Mahavira Hall, the Thousand-Handed and Thousand-Eyed Guanyin, the Medicine Buddha Hall, the Manjushri Hall, the Hall of the Goddess, the Dharma Protection Hall, the Mountain God and Earth God Hall, the Lüzu Hall, the Chanting Hall, and the monks’ quarters. The Hall of the Goddess enshrines the Three Sacred Mothers of Sanyao, revered as the supreme deities of the female realm and worshipped by all. The three sisters—Yunxiao, Bixiao, and Qiongxiao—hold three magical treasures that govern each person’s lifelong fortune, prosperity, happiness, wealth, and glory. It is truly a unique wonder in the three northeastern provinces, immensely efficacious, with prayers answered without fail.

Even more unique is the Thousand Buddha Cave, which is unparalleled in the three northeastern provinces and rare throughout the country. The Thousand Buddha Cave can accommodate over 500 worshippers at once, staying warm in winter and cool in summer, with offerings inside that remain fresh year-round at room temperature. The cave features distinctive lighting and fragrant incense. The deities enshrined in the Thousand Buddha Cave include: Shakyamuni Buddha, Amitabha Buddha, Bhaisajyaguru (Medicine Buddha), Maitreya Buddha, Guanyin Bodhisattva, the Twisted-Neck Buddha, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, Manjushri Bodhisattva, Samantabhadra Bodhisattva, Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva, Sunlight Bodhisattva, Moonlight Bodhisattva, Skanda Bodhisattva, Sangharama Bodhisattva, the God of Wealth, and others. At the cave entrance stands the Divine Doctor Shi Buquan, believed to cure all human ailments. All these Buddhas and bodhisattvas have been enthroned and consecrated, blessing all beings, Namu Amitabha.
