Bridge A-Line

The first railway bridge in Benxi to span the Taizi River is Bridge A of the Shenyang-Dandong Railway line. Constructed in 1909 (the first year of the Xuantong reign in the Qing Dynasty), the bridge has a total length of 552.15 meters, a width of 4 meters, and a height of 22.16 meters. Each side of the bridge deck is equipped with a 1-meter-wide sidewalk. The bridge has a total of 20 spans; the first span and the 12th to 20th spans consist of 19.08-meter-long upper-bearing riveted steel plate girders, while the 2nd to 11th spans are made up of 33.12-meter-long lower-bearing riveted truss girders. The substructure is U-shaped gravity type, with pier caps in a round-end style, and the pier foundations constructed from white lime mortar block stones.

In 1960, the bridge was destroyed by a flood. After reconstruction and repair, 10 of the original 19.08-meter upper-bearing riveted steel plate girders were replaced with 19.3-meter-long aluminum beams. Additionally, three piers—numbers 2 to 4—were raised by 1.5 meters on their original foundations, increasing the total length of the bridge to 562.9 meters and improving its flood resistance. Currently, the bridge accommodates 63 trains daily, including 9 passenger trains.
