Dongguan’s highest peak, Silver Bottle Mouth, is located at the border between Qingxi Town and Huizhou, often referred to as the “Little Jiuzhaigou.” The main peak of Silver Bottle Mouth stands at 898 meters above sea level. It earned its name because, from a distance, it resembles a silver bottle with a pointed peak like a bottle’s mouth. Legend has it that Guanyin Bodhisattva was traveling through the south when she was captivated by the stunning scenery of Silver Bottle Mountain. Unknowingly, she stopped and, enchanted by the view, left behind her lotus throne and precious vase, which transformed into the present-day Lotus Throne Mountain and Silver Bottle Mouth.

The Former Residence of Sun Yat-sen’s Ancestors — Shangsha Village, anciently known as Changsha, also called Shaxi. The ancestors named it so because their dwelling was located along a stretch of sandy shore by the sea. 1. The Sun Clan Ancestral Hall The Sun Clan Ancestral Hall in Shangsha Village, Chang’an Town, was first built in the mid-Ming Dynasty. In the early years of the Tongzhi reign during the Qing Dynasty, with sponsorship from clan relatives in Zuobutou, Xiangshan (Zhongshan City), the ancestral hall was expanded, becoming majestic and imposing in shape, resembling a crouching beast. On the day of its completion, a couplet was gifted, narrating the lineage and origin of the Sun family — concise yet meaningful — to remind descendants not to forget the virtues of their ancestors. The couplet reads: “Rooted in our hometown, as trees have roots and waters have sources, five generations of excellence began in Guanling; enshrining the spirits in the ancestral hall, remembering the merits of forefathers and the virtues of ancestors, three branches offer incense in tribute to Xiangshan.” In the autumn of 1986, on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of Sun Yat-sen’s birth, the History Research Office of Sun Yat-sen University, together with the Dongguan Municipal CPPCC and the Bureau of Culture, held a symposium on Sun Yat-sen’s ancestral origins in Chang’an Town. Shangsha Village and the Hong Kong compatriots' association were both invited to attend. Attendees presented extensive historical materials proving that Sun Yat-sen’s lineage originated from Shangsha Village. The Guangdong Provincial TV Station filmed a documentary news feature titled “The Sun Clan Ancestral Hall and the New Look of Shangsha Village,” which was later broadcast on television, marking a significant event at the time. Inspired by the gathering, Hong Kong compatriots proposed renovating the ancestral hall and expanding the local school. On May 21, 1996, it was listed by the People’s Government of Chang’an Town as one of the first batch of town-level cultural relics protection units.

The Centenarian Memorial Archway is located on the north bank of Ximen Pond in the Ming and Qing dynasty ancient architectural complex of Nanshe Village, Chashan Town, Dongguan City, Guangdong Province. It was built between the 20th year (1592) and the 26th year (1598) of the Wanli reign during the Ming Dynasty. The structure extends 16.8 meters in depth and spans 10.4 meters in width, covering a total area of 174.7 square meters. In ancient times, when medical science was not yet advanced, “it was rare for people to live to seventy.” At that time, five individuals from Nanshe Village—Xie Yanzhen, Xie Shisi, Xie Zhenhou’s wife Madam Huang, and Xie Yanjuan’s wife Madam Ye—all lived to be one hundred years old. The county magistrate Li Wenkui and prefect Zhao Yuan reported this to the imperial court and requested the construction of an archway in their honor. Upon approval, the court granted funding for the building of a memorial shrine, which was named the “Centenarian Memorial Archway.” As such, the front of the structure resembles a traditional memorial archway, while the rear is a shrine, reflecting the respect accorded to women at the time. Hence, the shrine’s plaque is inscribed with the name “Ren Shou Tang” (Hall of Benevolence and Longevity).
