The Hehuan Mountain Range requires no heavy gear or climbing permits—just attention to safety and keeping warm, and you can easily reach your first "hundred peaks" summit. Right now, Yushan azaleas and Formosan red azaleas are in full bloom, and missing them means waiting another year. Beside Songxue Lodge, there’s a safe wooden-plank trail that leads to Taiwan’s highest and largest garden, Hehuandong Peak, and it’s also one of the spots with the densest displays of Yushan azaleas.
The sole skin and the tender, oily layer beneath are delicious, though unfortunately still dotted with quite a few bones.
When I first started writing food reviews, I didn’t dare to eat milkfish. My reluctance stemmed from both its fishy smell and the many bones. But after being introduced to the milkfish belly at Ah Cai Milkfish Belly in Ximending and getting a taste for it at Qiu Qiu Milkfish in Nanjing Night Market, I gradually fell in love with milkfish. Later, many people recommended a place called “Lu Rou Fa” between Hualien and Danfeng that serves great milkfish, and more importantly, their lu rou fan (braised pork rice)—my all-time favorite—is also excellent. That’s how it ended up on my must-visit list.

V Air’s mascot “Wei Bear” made its official debut this (14th) afternoon, appearing in downtown Taipei to deliver a delightful street surprise.
