In Chinese, soaking in hot springs can also be called "soaking in hot water" (泡汤), but in the eyes of the Japanese, these two characters carry different meanings. In Japanese, "湯" (yu) generally refers to "hot water" (お湯), while "泡" means "bubbles." So if you show the Japanese the term "泡汤," they might think you're looking for hot boiled water instead of a hot spring bath. If you don’t speak Japanese, just write "温泉" (onsen) or "入湯" (nyuuyu), and they’ll understand.
