Jianping Han Dynasty Great Wall Site

The Jianping Han Dynasty Great Wall Site is a cultural relic protection unit of Liaoning Province.

Han Dynasty Great Wall Site (from Xiaowujiazi in Bajiazi Farm to Taotu Village in Gujiazi Township) — Located in Bajiazi Farm, Kuodesu Township, Zhangjiayingzi Township, and Gujiazi Township of Jianping County

Within the six townships of Bajiazi, Kuodesu, Zhangjiayingzi, Yushulinzi, Zhuluke, and Kalahan in Jianping County, Chaoyang, there stretches a nearly 70-kilometer-long, intermittent, and barely visible “earthen ridge.” This ridge winds through mountains and slopes, undulating as it goes. Viewed from a height, it resembles a leaping “black dragon,” freely encircling the vast land behind it. This section of the Han Dynasty Great Wall was largely built along river valleys or on hilltops along valley slopes. Constructing it along river valleys utilized the rivers as a “natural barrier,” taking advantage of the water for defense. Building it along hilltops and slopes provided a vantage point for scouting enemy movements. The “river-section” of the Jianping Han Dynasty Great Wall extends over 20 kilometers, while the wall sections that wind along mountaintops cover more than 40 kilometers. Leveraging both mountain and river terrain, the wall was situated high up and guarded by natural steepness, embodying the typical defensive characteristics of the Great Wall.
