Indeed, over these past few days, the beauty of Gangshika has conquered many seasoned athletes. Many have fallen deeply in love with Gangshika and hope the Gangshika Mountaineering and Skiing Exchange Conference will continue to grow, providing them with a platform for exchange and showcasing their skills.
With so many people placing such high expectations on Gangshika, how should it develop in the future? How can it become a sacred site for more domestic and international mountaineering and skiing enthusiasts?
Feng Jianping, Director of the Qinghai Provincial Sports Bureau, noted that Gangshika Snow Mountain is just over 100 kilometers from Xining, making transportation very convenient. In the near future, a railway line will also pass at the foot of the mountain. Additionally, Gangshika Snow Mountain complements the 4A-level scenic spot in Menyuan Hui Autonomous County — the "Hundred-Kilometer Rapeseed Flower Sea" — and is close to other tourist attractions such as the Atomic City and the Hainan Prefecture’s Wang Luobin Music Art Museum. With its stunning natural scenery, it is highly suitable for mountaineering and skiing activities. Hosting the Gangshika Mountaineering and Skiing Conference is not only about building this brand, but also about leveraging the region’s unique high-altitude sports resources, magnificent natural landscapes, profound cultural heritage, and rich ethnic characteristics to create an important part of Qinghai’s broader cultural framework that integrates sports, tourism, and culture. Through such an event, the province and the Haibei region will receive greater publicity, further enhancing their visibility and influence.
Feng Jianping said that developing sports means actively integrating it into the broader development of culture, striving to contribute to Qinghai’s economic growth, social harmony, ethnic unity, and people’s happiness. Gangshika is a “golden mountain” — if developed well, it can bring immeasurable benefits to the local economy and tourism industry.
It is understood that the Qinghai Provincial Sports Bureau has already communicated with the Haibei Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture Government and other relevant departments to focus on building this brand, improving Gangshika’s infrastructure, and providing greater convenience for more mountaineering and skiing enthusiasts. At the same time, with the Gangshika Mountaineering and Skiing Exchange Conference as the core, the bureau plans to develop a series of tourism activities centered around attractions such as the Hundred-Kilometer Rapeseed Flower Sea and the Atomic City, extending to areas like Qilian, fully tapping into and utilizing the region’s unique natural and cultural resources. This will drive the development of highland sports tourism, sports adventure, and sports leisure industries, achieving leapfrog growth.
Feng Jianping said, "In the 1980s, our province’s Anyemaqen Snow Mountain was once famous in the global mountaineering and skiing community, but we missed the opportunity and lost the brand. Now, Gangshika is gradually becoming a holy site in the hearts of mountaineering and skiing enthusiasts, and we cannot let this opportunity slip away again."
Therefore, Feng Jianping has also envisioned a bright future for Gangshika. He said that starting next year, the Gangshika Mountaineering and Skiing Exchange Conference will be upgraded to a pan-Asian event, then to a world-class event the year after, and within five years, Gangshika will be developed into a world-class mountaineering and skiing tourism destination.
"We built the Tour of Qinghai Lake in less than ten years, making the world know Qinghai because of it. Now, we aim to build Gangshika in five years, so the world will know Haibei and Qinghai because of Gangshika." Speaking of Gangshika’s future, Feng Jianping is full of confidence.
