Yuanbao Mountain Ciyun Temple

Yuanbao Mountain Ciyun Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

In the early morning, as you stroll up the lush green slopes of Yuanbao Mountain on the eastern side of Reshuitang, and look eastward, your spirits will be lifted by the sight of a temple complex with green-tiled roofs and gray bricks nestled among trees, along with red-walled halls. At six o'clock in the morning, the deep and resonant sound of the temple bell suddenly rings out. Ancient texts often describe famous temples as places of solemn sanctity with “morning bells and evening drums, lamplight and yellowed scriptures.” Today, at the foot of Yuanbao Mountain in Reshuitang, Lingyuan City, this is exactly the scene you’ll find.

The poet Lu Minglian, upon witnessing this view atop Yuanbao Mountain, was filled with poetic inspiration and emotion, and thus composed a seven-character ancient-style poem, which reads:

A divine concept merges shrine and hall,

Nestled by mountain and water, a fresh scenic sprawl.

Monks and laymen alike revere the site,

Honoring sages past to enlighten future’s light.

Solemn and majestic, the Sacred Water Temple stands,

From ruins reborn, the ancient temple expands.
