Moridaga National Forest Park is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction and a state-level forest park.

As you travel northward along the dragon-like spine of the Greater Khingan Mountains to the region at 51°N latitude, weaving through a vast, mysterious, and uniquely scenic forest filled with greenery, you’ll be greeted by endless waves of lush forests, clear blue waters under azure skies, and the sounds of birdsong and blooming flowers. This is China’s most enchanting destination — Moridaga National Forest Park.

Moridaga National Forest Park began preparations in 1998, was officially approved by the State Forestry Administration in 1999, and commenced full operations on August 10, 2000. It borders the Hulunbuir Grassland to the south and adjoins the Erguna National Nature Reserve and the Mangui & Northern Primitive Forest Reserve Bureau to the north, covering a total forest area of 455,000 hectares. It is the northernmost, longest in sightseeing routes, and most ecologically diverse state-level forest park in China. Here, the original natural ecology, natural balance, and natural harmony remain preserved to this day.

Moridaga National Forest Park boasts unique ecological resources: vast forests, major boundary rivers, rich folklore, and magnificent ice and snow landscapes. Leveraging these, the area has developed its forest tourism industry with high vision, high starting points, high standards, and high-level investment. In 2011, in line with the national goal of building a AAA-level tourist attraction, the Moridaga Forestry Company (Forestry Bureau) established a “four zones, three routes, one center” tourism management framework based on the principles of “protective development, ecological construction, and humanized services.” Following this, four key scenic areas were launched: Longyan Mountain Scenic Area, Primitive Forest Ecological Zone, Bailu Island Resort, and Boundary River Folk Culture Zone. Three major tourism routes were also developed: the Primitive Forest Ecology Route, the Sino-Russian Descendants’ Folk Culture Route, and the Erguna Boundary River Route. A tourist resort center centered around Bailu Island was created. To date, five major projects have been developed: ecological sightseeing, water-based recreation, leisure vacations, boundary river attractions, and the Forest Mini Train. Twenty-two tourist attractions have been built.

In 2013, Moridaga National Forest Park was officially upgraded to a national AAAA-level tourist attraction. The tourism brand “Xishuangbanna in the South, Moridaga in the North” is gradually gaining recognition nationwide, and its back-to-back titles as “China’s Most Desirable Destination” further showcase the park’s charm. Here, you’ll find some of the most stunning natural landscapes. At Longyan Mountain Scenic Area, the sea of forests shrouded in mist is nothing short of miraculous. From an elevated vantage point, the endless woods are enveloped in clouds and fog, which under sunlight appear like a gauzy veil drifting over the mountains or a gentle rain falling upon the forest, creating a fairy-tale scene that takes your breath away. At the Hongdou Slope, hundreds of hectares of red beans grow alongside ledum palustre and larch trees, forming a unique natural belt. Strolling here, you can admire the beauty of the primeval forest, taste the freshness of Hinggan red beans, breathe in the pine-scented air, and pluck a handful of ledum leaves — their fragrance bursts forth even stronger than perfume. The “One View, Nine Ridges” scenic spot is located 16 kilometers within the forest park. From the viewing platform atop the mountain, you can gaze across an endless expanse of rolling hills and verdant land, stretching as far as the eye can see — truly boundless. The “Forest Sea Listening to Waves” and the “Korean Pine Primitive Forest” scenic areas are among the earliest protected primitive forests in Moridaga National Forest Park. Nearly 100,000 hectares of larch and Korean pine primitive forests stretch as far as the eye can see, maintaining their most pristine natural state. Walking along the soft, spongy forest paths and looking up at the towering ancient trees whose canopies form a dense green ceiling, you’ll hear the rustling of pine waves carried by the mountain breeze — a natural symphony that makes you feel as if you’ve entered a paradise untouched by the modern world. At the “Deer Path” and “Hunter’s Trail” scenic spots within the area, you can pay respects to a 300-year-old “Longevity Pine,” touch the “Money Tree,” experience the folklore of forest dwellers, walk the Hunter’s Trail, and enjoy the scenery while indulging in the fun of the forest.

The most thrilling, memorable, and challenging experience is rafting along the Jiliuhe River. Drifting on the water, the currents alternate between calm and rapid — sometimes surging with foamy waves, splashing waterfalls, and jagged rocks lining both banks, with mountains rising and falling unevenly, sometimes steep cliffs and other times deep valleys. From time to time, flocks of frightened ducks will take flight, skimming the water’s surface and racing alongside your boat. Just when you think you can catch them, they suddenly dive underwater and disappear, adding vitality and beauty to the serene landscape.

Introduction to Hotel Facilities in the Scenic Area

The Bailu Island Grand Hotel officially broke ground in 2009. It is a four-star hotel that blends European architectural style with modern hotel design, offering accommodation, dining, and entertainment all in one. It is currently the only four-star hotel in the northern forest region of the Greater Khingan Mountains. The hotel covers a construction area of 10,500 square meters and features high-end guest rooms, a fine-dining restaurant, a multi-functional conference hall, and a karaoke entertainment hall. It can accommodate 255 guests and serve 500 diners simultaneously.

The Bailu Island Grand Hotel is located at the foot of Kunshan Mountain on the right bank of the Erguna River, backed by green hills and facing the “Huanghuodi East Mountain,” the birthplace of the people of Hulunbuir. Down the mountain, the wide Jiliuhe River flows gently like a white hada (traditional Tibetan scarf) across the chest. The majestic Bailu Island Grand Hotel stands like a giant holding a blessed hada, sincerely welcoming guests from afar. The mountain is covered with dense natural forests, featuring all the main tree species of the Hinggan region such as Korean pine, larch, birch, and poplar, as well as a variety of flowers and medicinal plants like rhododendrons, raspberries, lilies, and astragalus. Hiking trails lead directly to the mountaintop, and visitors walking through the green corridors will sense the serenity and tranquility of the Greater Khingan Mountains.

Tourist Resort Destination: “Bailu Island Resort”

Located 101 kilometers within Moridaga National Forest Park are two slender islands nestled together like the Bagua (Eight Trigrams). The Erguna River, the largest primitive forest river in the north, loops in an “S” shape between the two islands. The islands are covered with wildflowers, red beans, dark green pines, and orange birches, offering breathtaking views of mountains and water. These are the legendary Canglang (Wolf) and Bailu (White Deer) Islands, which hold many tales for local mountain folk. Bailu Island Resort was built in 2002, covering an area of 3.87 square kilometers, and integrates dining, accommodation, and entertainment. The island features 15 Russian-style peaked wooden villa complexes, a large-scale conference reception center, and dining facilities that can accommodate 300 people at once. It primarily hosts medium to large conferences, academic field trips, cultural research tours, and sightseeing groups. It has previously provided tourism services for national leaders including [redacted names], as well as hosted renowned individuals such as Xi Murong, Jing Yidan, and Yu Dan. It is also a creative base for the Inner Mongolia Photographers Association and Phoenix TV.
