The China–Russia border along the Erguna River stretches 671 kilometers, neighboring five districts of Russia’s Zabaykalsky Krai. Heishantou Port, located on the opposite bank of the river from Russia’s Stolbovoye, is a national first-class port, situated 50 kilometers from the city government seat of Labudalin. The millennia-old Erguna River meanders northward, and the beautiful border river scenic area lies within its embrace. The Erguna River is dotted with numerous riverbanks and islets. The signing of the Treaty of Nerchinsk established the Erguna River as the boundary between China and Russia, chronicling over 300 years of history between the two nations. As one of the most important border rivers in northern China, the Erguna River basin is also the birthplace of many nomadic peoples in China, including the legendary Genghis Khan, whose life began here. The border river scenic area is far from the hustle and bustle of cities and free from industrial pollution, situated at the junction of grassland and forest. Within the scenic area, the river twists and turns, with numerous sandbars and islets scattered across its expanse. Along both banks, streams crisscross, wetlands abound, and shrubs thrive, showcasing typical wetland features. Navigating through the willow clusters and aquatic plants on the river islands, you’ll often startle waterfowl into flight. Just a stone’s throw away lies the Russian town, with its houses and streets clearly visible. Russians with blonde hair, blue eyes, and high cheekbones can be seen working by the river, fishing, swimming, and children playing, often waving to visitors. Occasionally, Chinese and Russian border patrol boats pass close to tourist vessels. One river separates two countries, yet both banks are visible in a single glance—this has become the hallmark of the border river scenic area. Driving along the border river or taking a boat tour offers a chance to enjoy exotic landscapes and experience authentic Russian folk culture.
