The scenic area is close to downtown Erguna and is currently the best-preserved and largest wetland in China, also hailed as the "No. 1 Wetland in Asia." Along the way to the summit, cosmos flowers bloom on both sides of the road, but the most beautiful scenery can only be seen from the highest observation deck. The mountaintop is the highest point in Erguna, with a very open view. From here, you can gaze at the grasslands and the clouds in the sky, overlook the city of Erguna, and take in the beautiful wetland in its entirety. Descend along the wooden stairways and boardwalks within the scenic area while enjoying the scenery. The loop of boardwalks is about 2 km, and each viewing area offers unique and breathtaking views.

The wetland in this scenic area is home to an extremely rich variety of wildlife, with up to 20 million birds migrating, staying, breeding, and roosting here every year.

The Erguna River Wetland Scenic Area features vast shrub meadows that stretch as far as the eye can see. The wetland also supports an extraordinarily diverse range of wildlife, with up to 20 million birds migrating, staying, breeding, and roosting here annually. It is one of the world’s most important breeding grounds for red-crowned cranes and a key habitat for the endangered whooper swan.

Known as the "No. 1 Wetland in Asia," the Erguna River Wetland is currently the best-preserved and largest wetland in China, making it a favorite among photography enthusiasts. The scenic area boasts vast shrub meadows that stretch endlessly. It is also home to a rich diversity of wildlife dependent on the wetland, with up to 20 million birds migrating, staying, breeding, and roosting here each year. It is one of the world’s most important breeding grounds for red-crowned cranes and a key habitat for the endangered whooper swan.

To explore the scenic area, you need to climb to the main peak at an altitude of 720 meters to enjoy a panoramic view of the wetland. Walk down from the wooden boardwalk at the visitor center, then uphill to reach the highest observation point, where you can view the wetland below the cliffs from different angles. One of the most iconic sights is the heart-shaped lake island.

From the mountaintop, you can also overlook the winding Gen River and the cityscape of Erguna, with houses featuring blue and pink roofs interspersed in a charming scene. If you stay until evening, the wetland under the setting sun will offer even more surprises.

The Erguna Wetland encompasses a particularly large alluvial plain, forming a delta at the confluence of the Gen River, Erguna River, Derbugan River, and Hawoer River. The wetland also includes the Gen River, Derbugan River, Hawoer River, their floodplains, willow shrubs, saline-alkali grasslands, ponds, and tributaries.

The wetland covers almost all types of natural ecosystems in Erguna except for primeval forests. During dry seasons, the relatively stable water conditions and abundant wetlands provide crucial shelter for many bird species. The clear Gen River flows quietly, with meandering waters embracing the meadows and lush greenery of low shrubs along the banks. In autumn, when the vegetation turns yellow, the landscape transforms into a vast golden expanse, presenting another magnificent sight.
