Hailar National Forest Park

Hailar National Forest Park is a national AAA-level tourist attraction and a national forest park.

Hailar National Forest Park (formerly Hailar West Mountain Scenic Area) is located on the West Mountain of Hailar District, Hulunbuir City. It is a national AAA-level tourist attraction and the only national forest park in China dominated by Scots pine.

Hailar National Forest Park is divided into the South Garden, North Garden, West Garden, and a reserve resource area.

The South Garden contains cultural relics from the microlithic period of the northern grasslands dating back several thousand years, making it one of four such sites in northern China. On the southern side of Celebrity Peak, there are three remnants of military fortifications built by the Japanese invaders in 1934, known at the time as the Shasong Mountain Position. These were part of 15 fortified zones constructed by the Japanese army in Northeast China and were destroyed by the Soviet Red Army in 1945 during the War of Resistance Against Japan. In recent years, the park has successively built a Folk Culture Restaurant, Hailar Exhibition Hall, Botanical Garden, and Zoo in the South Garden, and developed scenic spots on Celebrity Peak such as the Tree King, Sentinel Pine, Wounded Tree, Sweet Spring Pine, Twin Pine, and Root Slope. Standing atop Celebrity Peak and overlooking the vast sea of forests while listening to the rustling of pine trees, one can truly appreciate the stunning natural beauty of China’s northern frontier.

The North Garden is the largest of the three gardens, where the Scots pines remain in their natural state. The garden is most famous for its White Sand Beach, which features fine, white sand and captivating scenery. The integration of the grassland, natural Scots pine forest, and white sand beach forms a beautiful landscape. The vast ecosystem formed by the rich forest and grassland resources is highly suitable for wildlife, and the area has been developed into a free-range wildlife park.

The West Garden is mainly composed of wetlands, covering a total area of 2,500 hectares with 15 lakes. The lakes are home to numerous water birds, including the nationally protected second-class species such as swans, as well as large and medium-sized waterfowl like greylag geese, herons, grey cranes, and wild ducks. The China-Japan Friendship Forest is located on the large, flat wetland meadow vegetation of the West Garden, where planted saplings of Scots pine have grown into a significant forested area.

The Reserve Resource Area consists of a seed collection zone for mother tree forests, a protective forest construction zone, a forest-grass demonstration zone, a sandy land management zone, a wetland protection zone, and a seedling cultivation and research zone. The artificial forests in this area were planted in the 1980s and have now matured into a natural forest oxygen bar.

Admission Fee

The admission fee is 30 RMB, which includes access to the zoo and the Bird Forest.
