Chung Ying Street is a national AAA-level tourist attraction and a patriotic education base.

Guide: Sha Tau Kok’s Chung Ying Street is a “special zone within a special zone.” To enter Chung Ying Street, both travelers from mainland China visiting Shenzhen and Shenzhen residents (except those from Sha Tau Kok) must obtain a “Special Permit” issued by the - authorities.

Chung Ying Street is an open-market area where goods are not necessarily cheaper due to the absence of tariffs—some items may even be priced higher than elsewhere. Please shop around and stay informed. Special reminder: Always check price tags carefully. For cameras, distinguish between digital and non-digital models; for jewelry, differentiate between regular (non-gold/silver) accessories and gold-containing items. 2. Electrical goods require customs duty upon exit. Digital video cameras incur a tariff of RMB 1,000, while non-digital ones incur RMB 400. Special reminder: Be wary of scams if vendors promise tax exemption or customs clearance assistance.

3. “Guides” may steer you toward shopping—stay cautious.

When joining tour groups, verify whether they are organized by licensed travel agencies. Beware of dishonest guides colluding with shady merchants in a “two-man show.”

4. Shopping disputes on the Hong Kong side cannot be handled on the Shenzhen side. When entering Chung Ying Street, note that the left side belongs to Shenzhen and the right side to Hong Kong. Shops on the Hong Kong side are under Hong Kong jurisdiction, and any disputes there cannot be addressed by Shenzhen authorities. To protect your legal rights, always ask for an invoice when shopping.

Chung Ying Street is located in Sha Tau Kok Town, Yantian District, Shenzhen. It was formed by the siltation of a small river flowing from Wu Tong Shan to Dapeng Bay and was originally named “Lu Ji Jing.” Stepping into Chung Ying Street, one is greeted by both the weight of history and the vibrancy of modern life. Over time, this small street has evolved into a bustling commercial area lined with shops. In the early stages of China’s reform and opening-up, it once gained nationwide fame as a “shopping paradise.”

Take bus routes 202, 205, 360, 364, or 358 and get off at Sha Tau Kok Customs, then walk 1,000 meters forward; minibuses 785 and 68 go directly to the checkpoint

Admission Fee

RMB 10 per entry. You need to apply for a special permit at the Guangdong Provincial Entry-Exit Hall next to the entrance. The permit office is open from 8:30–12:00 and 13:00–16:00.
