Xiaomeisha Site

The Xiaomeisha Site is a cultural tourism attraction.

The Xiaomeisha Site is located northeast of the Xiaomeisha Resort in Yantian District, Shenzhen. It dates back to the middle Neolithic Age. Discovered and test-excavated in 1980, the excavation covered an area of 60 square meters. The third layer of the site is the cultural layer, where pottery artifacts including sandy-tempered pottery and painted clay pottery were unearthed. These pieces were fired at low temperatures and feature decorative patterns such as cord marks, shell-incised patterns, and incised wave motifs. Among the painted pottery, there are ring-footed plates with evenly mixed fine sand in the body. After polishing, the surface was coated with a grayish-white slip before being painted with reddish-brown designs. Patterns were composed of wave motifs, lines, and perforations, demonstrating a high level of artistic craftsmanship. The stone tools are flaked flint implements, processed on both sides using the indirect percussion technique, and are relatively small in size.
