Shenzhen Mangrove Coastal Ecological Park

The Mangrove Coastal Ecological Park is situated on the western seashore of Binhai Avenue in Futian District, Shenzhen, adjacent to the Futian Mangrove Nature Reserve. To protect the mangroves and their birds, in early 1999 during the construction of Binhai Avenue, the municipal government decided to relocate Binhai Avenue more than 200 meters northward. The originally planned 21-hectare construction site was turned into a green space and transformed into the current Mangrove Coastal Ecological Park, which was then handed over to the management of the Mangrove Nature Reserve. The park was initiated in 1999, officially opened to the public in December 2000, and had its Ecological Park Management Station established in March 2001.

The park is bordered by the mangrove forest, known as the "green wall," to the east, the scenic botanical corridor of Binhai Avenue to the west, the vast blue waters of Shenzhen Bay to the south, and the flat expanse of Binhai Avenue to the north. Its unique geographical location naturally makes it a prime tourist destination for directly enjoying views of the sea and the mangroves. Here, lush green lawns line tree-shaded paths, with flowers blooming in all seasons. The sea, lawns, woods, birds, and butterflies create a picturesque scene that captivates visitors and leaves a lasting impression. It is estimated that the park receives thousands of visitors on an average day.

The ecological park is designed around plants to highlight the concept of "nature-oriented." It boasts a rich and diverse variety of flora, including over 100 species of trees. There are fig species such as small-leaved banyan, rubber fig, giant banyan, and tall banyan, known for creating a forest-like canopy and maintaining spring-like greenery year-round; flowering and leafy trees like Lagerstroemia speciosa, Delonix regia, Bauhinia variegata, and Erythrina variegata; and graceful palm species such as coconut palms, fishtail palms, Canary Island date palms, and golden feather palms. There are nearly 100 species of flowering shrubs and ground covers, including foliage-focused plants like golden leaf, golden banyan, large red grass, variegated alpinia, white butterfly ginger, cordyline, monstera, and tradescantia, as well as flowering plants such as Indian azalea, rose, ixora, lantana, small-leaved Lagerstroemia, caesalpinia pulcherrima, oleander, yellow shrimp plant, vinca, and vinca rosea. The lawn area spans about 18 hectares, mainly planted with Manila grass. The park features a diverse arrangement and styling of plants, with trees, shrubs, and ground covers layered at varying heights. Cool, shaded woodlands, expansive green lawns, and vibrantly blooming flower stands each display their unique charm while complementing one another to form stunning and majestic landscapes.

Transportation: Take bus routes 121, 229, 236, 322, 337, 339, 353, 362, 369, 382, 80, J1, K105, K113, K204, M347, M370, Binhai Sightseeing Line, or Seaside Sightseeing Line 4 in Shenzhen, and get off at the Mangrove Station.

Driving Route: From the airport, take the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Expressway to the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Qilin Interchange, turn onto Nanhai Avenue, then onto the Binhai Nanyou Interchange Bridge, turn onto Gui Temple Road, and continue straight onto Binhai Avenue.
