Dongchong and Xichong are located in the southeastern part of Nan’ao Town. Both are natural beaches that, due to transportation limitations, have not undergone any artificial enhancements, thus showcasing their most pristine and charming natural beauty. Both Xichong and Dongchong lie along the edge of Dapeng Peninsula, with their coastlines forming a continuous stretch. The seawater is blue and crystal-clear, and the waves roll in one after another, full of vigor. The sand beneath your feet is especially fine; when the wind blows, it covers your entire body, and a light pat sends the fine grains scattering once more. Most enticing of all is the beach, which is covered with seashells — a sight believed to be unique along Shenzhen’s coastline. You don’t need to worry about competing with others to collect them, as there are so many. Be sure to bring plastic bags to hold your shell treasures. For those with a more adventurous spirit, you can walk along the shore for an exciting journey of exploration. Leap across rocks, dodge spiky wild pineapples scattered across the hills, navigate winding paths, and challenge yourself — it’s truly a wonderful experience. Also worth mentioning is that Dongchong is one of the best spots to catch the first rays of sunlight in Shenzhen.

The “Xichong–Dongchong (Full Route) Coastal Hike” from west to east helps you avoid the intense heat of the setting sun and offers the best photographic lighting conditions for “front-lit” shots. The traditional “Dongchong–Xichong Coastal Hike” goes from east to west, with about half the route over mountain paths and the other half along the coastline. The hike takes approximately four hours and is more suitable for first-time trekkers.

Take bus routes 360 or 364 within the city to Nan’ao, then transfer to a motorcycle, minivan, or rent a car.
