The Guangdong Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant is situated on the shores of Daya Bay in the eastern part of Shenzhen, facing the bay and backed by Paiya Mountain, covering an area of 2 square kilometers. It was jointly built in 1985 by the Guangdong Provincial Electric Power Corporation and Hongkong Electric Company Limited. With picturesque scenery and beautiful surroundings, it lies about 45 kilometers in a straight line from Shenzhen and about 50 kilometers from Hong Kong. Guangdong Nuclear Power Joint Venture Company Limited was established in 1985, jointly invested by Guangdong Nuclear Power Investment Co., Ltd. and Hong Kong Nuclear Investment Co., Ltd., and is responsible for the construction and operation of the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant.

The Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant is China's first large-scale commercial nuclear power plant built with foreign funds, equipment, and technology. It is one of the largest Sino-foreign joint ventures established since China's reform and opening up, with a total investment of 4 billion US dollars. The plant is equipped with two pressurized water reactor units, each with a capacity of 984 MWe. Construction officially began on August 7, 1987, and the two units were successively put into commercial operation on February 1 and May 6, 1994. The Guangdong Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant generates over 10 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, with 70% of the power supplied to Hong Kong and 30% to the Guangdong power grid. Through nuclear power generation, the plant helps reduce coal consumption by 3.7 million tons per year in Guangdong and Hong Kong, significantly decreasing annual emissions of gases that cause the greenhouse effect and acid rain. These include 9 million tons of carbon dioxide, 170,000 tons of sulfur dioxide, 30,000 tons of nitrogen oxide, and thousands of tons of dust particles in the air.

Transportation – Self-driving: From the train station or Luohu Port: Take Luofang Interchange to Luosha Highway, then get on Yanba Expressway, turn right onto Pingkui Highway, continue straight on Pingxi Highway, turn left onto Lingnan Road, turn right onto Yingbin North Road, turn left onto Pengxin East Road, turn left onto Gongyuan Road [Dapeng], turn right onto Pengfei Road, and arrive at the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant.

From the airport: Take Guangzhou-Shenzhen Expressway via Jihe Expressway, transfer to Yanba Expressway, continue straight on Pingxi Highway, turn left onto Lingnan Road, turn right onto Yingbin North Road, turn left onto Pengxin East Road, turn left onto Gongyuan Road [Dapeng], turn right onto Pengfei Road, and arrive at the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant.

Guided tour fees: generally 30 RMB per person for group visitors, 15 RMB per person for students. Open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
