The Dongjiang Column Northern Withdrawal Memorial Pavilion is located on Shayuyong Beach in Kuiyong Town, Longgang District, Shenzhen, about 5 kilometers from Dapeng Town. After the victory of the War of Resistance against Japan, according to the agreement signed during the Chongqing negotiations between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, the main force of the Dongjiang Column was required to withdraw northward to Yantai. On June 30, 1946, under the unified command of the military-political committee of the withdrawal forces led by Zeng Sheng, 2,583 personnel boarded three U.S. landing ships at Shayuyong on the Dapeng Peninsula and set off for Yantai, Shandong. During the Liberation War, the force expanded into two columns and participated in a series of battles including the Eastern Henan Campaign, making significant contributions to the liberation of the Chinese people. To commemorate this historic event—the northern withdrawal of the Dongjiang Column’s main force to Shandong—Kowloon County People’s Government (the former administrative body) built the pavilion and erected a monument on the original site at Shayuyong in 1989. It was later designated as a municipal patriotic education base.

The memorial pavilion sits backed by mountains and facing the sea, perched above the water. Sitting inside the pavilion, visitors can enjoy the refreshing sea breeze and feel completely at ease. To the left of the pavilion lies a sandy beach perfect for swimming, making it an ideal summer retreat.

It lies at the northern tip of the Dapeng Peninsula, bordered by Daya Bay to the east, adjacent to Yantian District to the west, facing Dapeng Bay and neighboring Dapeng Town to the south, across the sea from Kowloon Peninsula in Hong Kong, and connecting to Pingshan Town and Huizhou City to the north. The town covers a total area of 103.9 square kilometers. Its terrain features a long, narrow strip of land nestled between mountains and the sea, predominantly hilly and mountainous, and is part of a limestone region. The area is rich in natural resources such as iron ore, phosphate ore, kaolin, granite, and sea sand.
