Dongchong is situated at the southernmost end of the Dapeng Peninsula in southeastern Shenzhen. It boasts beautiful coastal scenery and remains largely undeveloped, especially Dongchong Village, where there are still extensive fish ponds. The Dongchong administrative village is made up of six natural villages, listed from west to east as Dashili, Miumianshu, Shangwei, Dawei, Shagang, and Chongjie. The local population numbers fewer than 500 people. Dongchong is the only village in Shenzhen not connected by a provincial-level highway, and its residents make a living primarily through aquaculture and fishing.
