Xiantouling Site

The Xiantouling Site is a cultural heritage protection unit of Shenzhen.

The Xiantouling Site is located in Xiantouling Village, Dapeng Town, Longgang District, Shenzhen. It dates back to the middle Neolithic Age. Discovered in 1981, it has been excavated three times—in 1985, 1989, and 1997—covering a total area of 1,241.5 square meters. The site itself spans over 10,000 square meters. Discoveries include house foundation postholes, layers of red burned soil, ash pits, and other remains. Artifacts unearthed include pottery and stone tools. The pottery is mainly sandy clay pottery, with a small amount of orange-yellow clay pottery and white pottery. The most common decoration is cord marking, followed by shell scraping and shell imprinting, as well as incised patterns, string patterns, vein patterns, woven patterns, applied relief, and painted designs. Vessel types include cauldrons, jars, ring-footed plates, basins, bowls, cups, tube-shaped cups, and pedestals. There are both round-bottomed and ring-footed vessels, as well as flat-bottomed and round-flat-bottomed ones. Stone tools are mostly polished, with some being chipped. Types include axes, adzes, chisels, knives, pestles, pounders, anvils, whetstones, and balls. The site bears close resemblance to Phase I of the Dameisha Site, dating back over 6,000 years. A single tomb was also excavated, containing funerary objects such as a pottery chicken-shaped pot, dating to the Shang Dynasty. In addition, Eastern Han and Song Dynasty tombs have been found at the site.

Dapeng Subdistrict: Located on the Dapeng Peninsula in eastern Shenzhen, Dapeng Subdistrict is under the jurisdiction of Longgang District, Shenzhen, Guangdong Province. It covers a total area of 82.81 square kilometers, with a population of 60,000. It is 50 kilometers from downtown Shenzhen, 30 kilometers from Yantian Port, and 35 kilometers from Sha Tau Kok Customs.
