Zhengpuling Walled House

Zhengpuling Walled House is located in Xiangqian Village, Nanlian Community, Longgang Subdistrict, Longgang District, Shenzhen. It was built during the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty by Li Chao Yuan of the Li clan. The structure faces south. It currently consists of a three-courtyard, four-wing, one-enclosed-dragon layout with one reverse hall and five watchtowers. The enclosed dragon house was built first, followed by the four wing rooms. The two side wings form five sets of “fighting-corridor-style” residential units. A reverse hall was built in front and connected to the wing rooms. The reverse hall and the original courtyard and wing rooms of the enclosed dragon house are separated by a sky street. The reverse hall has two stories and three gates. In front of the walled house lies a open flat area and a moon pond.

Overall, in terms of architectural style, it represents a transitional type of Hakka walled house evolving from the traditional enclosed-dragon style to the later square-walled form. The watchtowers exhibit distinct Western architectural features. The exterior of the walled house is grand and dignified, while the interior decorations are simple and unadorned. The surrounding historical environment is well preserved, giving it significant cultural heritage value for the study of the historical and cultural evolution of the Hakka people.

Nanlian Community: Nanlian Community is located in the central part of Longgang Subdistrict, situated between Longgang Subdistrict and Longgang Central City. To the east, it connects to Longgang Town; to the south, it borders Nanyue Community; to the west, it neighbors Longgang Central City; and to the north, it adjoins Shengping Community. National Highway 205 (Line 3 of the Shenzhen Metro) runs through the entire community, as does the Huizhou–Yantian–Shenshan Expressway. Both north-south and east-west urban arterial roads are spread throughout the community, forming an extensive and convenient road network. The community covers an area of 5.69 square kilometers, with an original rural permanent resident population of over 3,200 people and a non-local floating population of more than 100,000. It governs 17 resident groups.
