Former Site of the "Forward" Newspaper Office

The former site of the "Forward" Newspaper Office is a cultural heritage site protected by the Shenzhen Municipality.

The former site of the "Forward" Newspaper Office is located to the west of Zeng Sheng’s former residence in Shihui Po Village, Pingshan Town, Longgang District, Shenzhen. It is a brick-and-tile house with three bays in width and one bay in depth, covering an area of 120 square meters.

The "Forward" was the official newspaper of the Guangdong People’s Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Detachment. It was first published on March 29, 1942, on the shores of Dapeng Bay. Its predecessor was the "Dongjiang People’s Tribune." Due to enemy “sweeps,” the newspaper office frequently relocated along with the headquarters and political department. At times, it moved to fishing boats offshore, mountain huts, or villages just a few kilometers from enemy positions. Initially, the office had simple equipment, only mimeograph and handwritten tools. After the establishment of the Dongjiang Column of the Guangdong People’s Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Forces on December 2, 1943, the "Forward" became the official newspaper of the Dongjiang Column, and the office remained in Shihui Po Village for a relatively long period. In the spring of 1945, the office moved with the political department to Chaoyuan Cave on Mount Luofu. Until June 3, 1946, when the Dongjiang Column withdrew northward to Yantai, Shandong, the "Forward" published over 100 issues.

In 1984, the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government designated it as a cultural relics protection unit.
