Physician Lin Shiying’s Former Residence

Physician Lin Shiying’s Former Residence is located within Dapeng Fortress in Longgang District. Lin Shiying was from Pinghai, Guangdong, and came from a military family. In the 18th year of the Qianlong reign, he was appointed as a Qianzong (military officer) of the Dapeng Garrison, after which his entire family moved into Dapeng Fortress. He was later promoted to positions including Guanghai Guard Commander, Chenghai Prefectural Commander, and Haian Touring Commander. He was granted the honorary title of Gongyi Physician, awarded a blue-topped peacock feather, and held the third-rank official status. His grandfather, Lin Bisheng, was also quite prominent, having been conferred the title of “Military Merit General,” awarded a blue-topped peacock feather, and held the second-rank official status.

This former residence was built during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. The small courtyard faces south and has three sections and three rooms. The entire structure faces north and is entered through a side door, covering an area of 120 square meters. Architectural features include a stone base, grey brick walls, wooden frame construction, and tiled roofing. The layout is a two-bay, two-section plan with a central courtyard and follows a brick-and-wood structural style. The wooden plaque above the entrance gate bears the inscription “Physician’s Residence.”
