Temple of the Marquis

The Temple of the Marquis is a cultural tourism attraction.

The Temple of the Marquis in Dapeng Garrison is a shrine dedicated to Zhang Liang, the Marquis of Liu during the Han Dynasty. Its exact date of establishment is unknown. Based on the surviving architectural remnants, the existing structure was rebuilt in the late Qing Dynasty. During the 1960s and 1970s, the temple was repurposed as a grain storage facility for the commune and underwent alterations, including covering the courtyard and adding a two-story annex to the front hall. It was originally a temple-style building with two courtyards, three bays, side corridors, and one central courtyard, measuring 9.2 meters in width and 17.6 meters in depth. Although later damaged, its lower foundations and other parts remain well-preserved. The granite stone couplet on the temple gate is still intact, with the characters engraved in regular script reading: “Brilliant strategies to vanquish Xiang and uplift Liu; Divine merits to shelter the people and protect the nation.” Judging from the content of the couplet, it should be a temple dedicated to Zhang Liang, the Marquis of Liu from the Han Dynasty. In front of the temple gate stands a granite stone plaque, 1.8 meters long and 0.67 meters wide, with honeysuckle patterns carved along the edges and a coin-shaped aperture in the center at the top. The plaque bears four large characters in recessed regular script: “Temple of the Marquis.”
